We study Russian two times per week. Classes begin on Monday September 17 after school in the teacher lounge. Students, teachers, and parents are welcome. English will not be spoken during the lessons.

Over the last four years our Russian Club has done some incredible things. We also have many new friends around the world in Russia.

In November 2009, students from Novocherkassk, Russia were at Perkins for ten days. Ms. Inna Tereshenko lead a group of eleven students to San Diego.

In April 2010 Mr. Hernandez took a group of Perkins teachers and students to Novocherkassk to visit our new friends. We were part of the school community while we were there. We learned a lot.You can see some of those pictures here.

In November 2010 Ms. Tereshenko again led another delegation of students from public school #1 in Novocherkassk and they spent 11 days at Perkins living in our community, attending our classes, and learning about our education system.

In April 2011 Mr. Hernandez led another group of Perkins teachers and students to Novocherkassk School #1 where we were received like dignitaries. We were interviewed three times and our delegation was featured in the regional TV news and press. The mayor of Novocherkassk was also present to welcome us.

In October 2012 we established a new partnership with Vlapostok School 78. This was a result of the Open World program which invites educators from countries in the former USSR to learn about the United States. Vlapostok is a port city on the Pacific Ocean on the eastern coast of Russia. Ms. Natalia Balandina and a group of students visited Perkins for 10 days.

In November 2012 Ms. Tereschenko from Novocherkassk brought another delegation of students to Perkins.

As you can see our school has built very strong sister school relationships with schools in Russia. This has greatly enriched our school and our community and strengthened our academics. When these delegations come to our school our students want to show just how fantastic and studious we are. Our community takes this very seriously. Some of our students who have studied Russian and travelled to Russia have gone on to be very successful. Please contact the principal if you are interested in participating in the Russian Club.
