Perkins Parent & Student Handbook

THE PERKINS MISSION

Our mission at Perkins is to educate all of our students in a safe and nurturing environment that promotes self-esteem through high expectations. All of our students will receive a well-rounded education so that they will become productive citizens in an ever-changing, technologically-advanced, global society. In English Language Arts, our students will be able to debate and support point of view, evaluate, persuade, and justify; explain common antonyms and synonyms; recognize multiple meanings in texts of familiar topic; understand most idioms; and understand and create jokes. They will be able to perform these functions competently both verbally and in writing. In Mathematics, our students will be able to solve problems in a variety of ways; have a conceptual understanding of geometry; and demonstrate advanced mathematical skills through the development of high-level algebraic thinking. Although the academic focus at Perkins centers on language arts and math, our students will achieve a well-rounded education through the balance of academic endeavors in science, social studies, physical education, and the arts.
