On May 22, 2023 San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria came to Perkins to visit the school.  He had read the two articles in "The San Diego Union-Tribune" two weeks ago, and he wanted to meet the students and staff that were featured in the articles.  Superintendent Dr. Lamont Jackson was also present.  Students were gathered in the auditorium for a chance to meet the Mayor and ask him questions.  Mayor Gloria was impressed with the questions that Perkins students were asking.  The first question that the Mayor took was asked by Gabe, a 7th grade student.  Gabe asked the Mayor what it was like to meet President Biden, and the Prime Ministers from the United Kingdom and Australia when they held a summit in San Diego two months ago. Students loved his answer.
